This week we worked on perfecting the steps of Faux calligraphy. This is my favorite type of lettering by far It didn’t take me long to figure out that this was my very FAVORITE type of lettering! It was pack FULL of GRACE! I could write it the word messy and filled mistakes (much as and then use step # 2 & 3 to make it look BEAUTIFUL! Here’s a picture of the steps to refresh 🙂
Write out the letters loosely. Try to make it a little bit bigger than you normally would. This helps I promise!
2. Draw mirror lines where your downstrokes are. You decide how wide you want to make them.
You decide how wide you want to make them.
3. Fill it in! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
Here are the pens that I used. They are more like markers. I use them on journals and other things I want to look bold.
Here’s the same process with my favorite MICRON PENS. I use the #08, #01 & then #1 to fill in.
Can you tell these are my favorites? They are pretty beat up!
This takes practice. It took me many tries to get it to where I was able to do well with it on the first try, but like I said, I like this form of lettering the most because it allows for mistakes! Take a look at this:
Here is my letter “c” after step 3. It’s not perfect BUT i can go back with a skinnier pen and smooth out the edges!
How awesome is that!? (I like to use the Papermate Flair for this the most. It ALWAYS gives me a really clean line (no bleeding from the lines. It will, however, bleed through a bible page. I only use my Micron Pens on the bible pages!)
How else can we take our faux calligraphy up a notch?
